Jahmicah Dawes is a 39-year-old husband and father of 2 boys from Central Texas.
Jahmicah is the Owner of SlimPickins Outfitters in Stephenville, Texas, where you can often find him and his Assistant Manager, Bill Murray, the Basset Hound, greeting customers. Slim Pickins Outfitters is the first Black-owned outdoor retailer in the nation. Jahmicah has a passion for the outdoors, especially fly fishing, and strives to help foster diversity not only in the outdoors but on the water. The overarching goal is to diversify the outdoors through the outdoor industry. This is where there is a profound lack of diversity, especially in terms of positions of executive leadership and ownership. As Jahmicah put it, “we are not building a box because the box was never made or meant for us to fit in. We are building a staircase to include and elevate.
