I’m originally from Long Island, NY but currently reside in Central Phoenix with my wife and two kids. Professional responsibilities aside most of my time is spent coaching youth sports, supporting and amplifying important causes in my community, and of course, running. Trail running, in particular, has become a love of mine over the past few years and because I’ve been blessed with both the willingness to run in the dark or in intense heat and live within a three-mile radius of multiple trailheads, I’m able to do it 3-4 times a week. My primary goal as a leader in TURF, Black Men Run, and my local running community is to help make trail running more accessible so that more of us can experience its benefits.
Justin Yoder grew up on a Missouri farm where his love for the outdoors first took root. In 2003, he founded a nonprofit supporting children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. After coming out in 2010, he gradually recognized the lack of LGBTQIA+ representation in outdoor spaces This inspired him to launch LGBTQ Outdoors in 2019, creating a safe, affirming community for LGBTQIA+ individuals who share a passion for nature and the great outdoors. Now based in Texas with his husband Patrick, Justin leads a growing network of staff and Ambassadors nationwide. Under his leadership, the organization has built a social media following of over 30,000, hosts monthly events across the country, and has been featured in national media including a Facebook Pride campaign with Laverne Cox, USA Today, GearJunkie, News is Out and The Dallas Voice. Justin has also spoken for organizations such the U.S. Forest Service, Federal Trade Commission, Houston Astros, Ohio DNR, and Texas Travel Alliance, further advancing visibility and inclusion in the outdoors.
Teresa established her love of the outdoors early in life, spending time outside on her family’s horse ranch in the Salinas valley, hiking and camping in the Eastbay hills and having local outdoor programs engrained in her, early on in her childhood. Fast-forward 30 years later—the outdoors is still her passion; the only difference is the stakes are higher. She now spends time outdoors with the purpose of engaging underrepresented communities in outdoor spaces, in hopes of fostering a shared sense of responsibility for environmental protection.
Teresa spends the majority of her time working alongside outdoor agencies, organizations, brands and retailers, on ways to welcome a more diverse audience to their boards, staff and programs/campaigns. She does this through outdoor events and speaking engagements across the country.
Along with being the founder of the In Solidarity Project, in which the Outdoor CEO diversity pledge is housed, she is also the co-director of the Outdoor Diversity Alliance, where she works alongside outdoor brands in helping to create a more diverse and equitable outdoor industry.
