Dr. Julie Lamarra is a Professional Practice Associate Professor in Outdoor Product Design and Development at Utah State University. This interdisciplinary program integrates design, engineering, sustainability, and industry collaboration to prepare students for careers in the outdoor industry. She partners closely with brands and industry leaders, such as NASA, Outdoor Research, The North Face, KLIM, and Salomon, to bring real-world briefs into the classroom and uses experiential, research-driven approaches to equip students with the skills needed for an evolving outdoor landscape. Her scholarship focuses on how design practices such as curiosity, iteration, and reflection cultivate more thoughtful, future-ready designers and teams, with research centered on design empathy, emotional durability, and aesthetic longevity in outdoor products.
